you know, my idea for a snowproof runway is really an invention for civilians...
however, one thing i've noticed about the 2nd iraq and afghan wars is the damage basic IEDs are doing... i noted that about 5 or 6 years ago, the Pentagon started investing alot of money in new armored vehicles that could take bigger hits,
however, to the best of my knowledge, the U.S. military is not taking advantage of dummy vehicles to clear IED endangered areas... which is to say, if you have to travel a single highway which you would reasonably suspect of being booby-trapped... you would have only a 1 in 3 chance of being bombed if you had 2 extra dummy vehicles in your convoy... your dummy vehicles would look the same on the outside but would be much cheaper to produce, insurgents that are viewing from a distance, e.g., with binoculars, in order to wait and detonate, would not know which vehicles are real and which are dummies... dummy vehicles could be controlled by remote control
similarly, a vehicle could be developed to travel first, also remote controlled, specifically to detonate IEDs, it could be built with a view to specifically detonate them, possibly by showering the surrounding area with small cluster bomblets or using deep-sound-vibration to detonate bombs
