on libya

regarding Libya -- it is pretty stupid if a multi-national force leaves the place worse than they found it -- even for a day or two -- now that Gaddafi is still about to keep the water switched off there, and the security situation disrupts commerce... the multi-national force is now obliged to airlift humanitarian aid such as water and food........ given how each help we give to nature-hit places like Pakistan and Aceh after the tsunami there is mighty small - but at least something - in the same way the Libyans should be provided with some succor.......

the question of arming the Libyans is separate....... the question of Libyans political savvy/awareness is important........ generally - the Arabs are a pretty clueless lot on many levels...... some Arabs actually think China's military is more powerful than America's becoz China has so many ground troops --- the American military has around 1 million members or 1 in 300 American citizens.... however of these 1 million only 1 in 10 of those or 100,000 can be deployed boots on the ground --- this is nothing compared to China's amount of footsoldiers however America's military is by far the greatest due to the technology and weapons they sport (the money)........ no-one should question the Europeans ability - along with Qatar, of policing Libya......... nor should Americans overly begrudge the French their Rambo moment.......... Americans need not leave much of their armed forces for the Libya affair........... the fact is, Iraq and Afghanistan keep the U.S. military pretty busy ....... with Iraq being a heavy weight to carry........ Iraq was a classic example of a society not ready for democracy.......... the same problem is evident in Libya: people in Libya now are already killing for fun and killing whoever for whatever.......... this is called chaos........ multi-national forces should not be adding to the chaos.....

American media commentators should not be seen as desirous of punishing Gaddafi........ a worthy objective in the region would be to install a democracy there however it might not be easy........ therefore the population would have to be armed....... possibly European footsoldiers could be encouraged to commit to the ground there.......... hanging Gaddafi or trying to try him is just stupid......... Gaddafi should not be made out to be a boogeyman - at the end of the day he is a national there and its his country, not Qatar's or France's.......
