yes iraq was a horrible disgusting mess and at least some kind of military victory for america and (barf) democracy and freedom -- which will even take root horribly in the middle east in the worst, bring-you-to-your-knees kind of way over the coming decade (or so)
but afghanistanis, no matter how some retired general on fox news and some positive-attitude type football helmet bouncing off things americans spin it --- you talk to any afghani and they are completely against american involvement there and have no goodwill for the americans -- this goes from karzhai to the taliban to the pluto-ban, the hystereceto-ban and the blind-freddy ban......
the only card left for america to play in afghanistan is eradicating completely the poppy crop and this would only increase the industry in thailand and burma and ruin the afghani population.... america will go nowhere in afghanistan, they won't even try calling it a victory any more than they did after vietnam

a long-term / low-level peacekeeping mission over very many years would at least serve as an active-mission / low-danger training ground for u.s. forces while the middle east turmoil unfolds.....

also, the relationship with pakistan is just going from bad to worse..... they are no longer happy with world cricket tournaments in like in the 1980s and now they are just crazy and want to blow shit up suicidally (some of them) --- it is not at all like iraq which was a goddam (pocket emptying) triumph...... the longer america stays pissing insensitively all over shit in afghanistan and bombing people around waziristan the more they are radicalizing and pissing off the pakistanis
stop piffing so much money away in afghanistan and pakistan!
