california

so this fetus blow fly making double compatriot ossie/spaniard was telling me one night in our magnificent apartment in madrid, some 11 stories about madrid's casa del campo, about some girl he met on a night out in madrid...

as luck had it... this girl he met, was from orange county... and somehow, 10 years later, i found myself in just that place...

california is without a question the greatest place in the world beyond doubt...... you CAN find beauty and matters of interest in ANYTHING you look at.... and you don't even need to take LSD to do it.... just get an autistic mindset going on for yourself or something....

the majority of my time in california was spent in a homeless shelter in downtown LA with about 100 afro-american dudes...

everytime i would wake up with the security guys yelling 'wake up' and shaking our cots.... spaced closely together.... and have breakfast on california's taxpayers... catch a bus to LAX and go to work with some afro-americans (mostly californians, really) - talking on the phone - this went on for 5 months......

i spent 3 months prior to california in seoul, south korea.. and before that in china from late august 2005 to february 2006.... from feb 2006 to may 2006 (5 years ago) when i went to california

leaving california was probably the dumbest thing i did with my life ever, and that's taking into account i never blew up 3000 people in one hit..... and even if i did, leaving california would still have been the dumbest thing i've ever done

if you're in america illegally, a word of advice: don't leave... and if you're not in california... don't leave

leaving california was so terrible... such a failure.... worse than the vietnam war... all i can do, when pondering that disastrous choice, is revert to remembering some other dumb occurrence in my life:

i choose my arrival in california in late may 2006 and subract to around april 2005 - so really, only a year ago, although to my dazzled mind... this coming and coming - from spain to france to china to new york to china to south korea to california -- the old axom: time and space is UNREAL becomes very apparent.....

in any case, escaping the great failure (irretrievably leaving california) -- i revert back to around april 2005 --- working on renovating some apartment in queens nyc with my buddy david the first generation american of italian parents....

this david was a real guido.... i was supposed to cover the walls in 'spermicide' -- that's what dave called it... whatever it was, was meant to prep the walls for painting... but i was supposed to take all the paint flakes off first... but i failed (again - my life is full of them too buddy!)

so dave comes back from wherever and is unbelievably angry... in those days, in nyc, i was an amazingly chilled out guy... you've probably never met anyone as chilled out as i was in those nyc days from march 2005 to late august 2005....

so when dave (i never called him that, but david), got all angry like that, it didn't even make me feel amused... i just passively watched his temper tantrums... he was amazingly angered by my incompetence... hey i'm not a handyman, what can i say?

anyway.... going back, for no particular reason i can think about, to early 2001... me and mary from spokane/seattle rented a car out in madrid and drove up to asturias which is where all of my father's side of the dna comes from... somehow, although i had already explored the place, mary and i discovered some little hidden mountain villages up in those mountainous haunts.... these people in some local hidden mountain places bar were amazing... they looked so short... and maybe inbred.... they were all crazy about drinking apple-cider alcohol as the asturians are.... i couldn't believe the place they chilled in existed -- so hidden -- so unique to themselves.... they ate the typical asturian white beans... mary had spent some time in brazil and had learnt portuguese there, she told me how crazy the brazilians were about black beans.... this region, asturias, is very close to portugal, and genetically speaking, super close to the portuguese, although the portuguese founded brazil, but the asturians went with spain and did the rest of south america and discovered california too (and left nothing there but some dumb jesuit churches, to be fair)
