o'reilly in early 19th century england part ii

as the ethnically-polish philosopher, nietzsche, also of the 19th century put it: evolution does not always mean a constant going forward, so that some generations retrogress... nietzsche cited the example of the people of his own part of the 19th century being less than those of the 'renaissance'... however it's unclear from his writings if nietzsche gave this example enough thought or was just looking for a loose example to fit his meaningful point....

regardless, we found that the generation of 1810 england were probably a more prudent, hard-working generation than our own... although that depends on what we mean by 'our own' generation -- it's your generation -- so you be the judge... the story continues

* * *

arriving home as the sun set, the maid, who accompanied the family, a young scottish woman with a marked scottish accent went ahead and made preparations for the induction of the o'reilly in his blue suit....

'cor! what an accent this man has!' said the mother, 'i can barely understand a word 'e says! 'ere, mr o'reilly, can you speak proper english? try repeating after me: -the rain in spain falls mainly on the plain - can you say that then?'

'ninnyhammer!???' scoffed the father after o'reilly had ejaculated the word in response to the lady of the manor's overtures....
